Gigibonta , an ice cream parlour, is a new addition to the food scene in Sierra Leone. It will is located along the picturesque Lumley Beach strip in Freetown and serves Italian home-made ice cream that is low fat and made with natural products.

The aesthetic of the parlour is modern, bright and fun. Though there are a few seats inside the parlour the main seating area is on the large lawn outside. Here you can enjoy your ice cream reclined in a deck chair under the shade of an umbrella.

There is a plethora of flavours to try including papaya, wild fruits, cinnamon and creme caramel. I chose praline and crema …. Wowzer! The gelato is luxuriously creamy and full of flavour. With every taste the ice cream seemed to get better. It was a such a shame when I had to stop eating to snap a pic for the sake of this review.

It was the best ice cream I’ve eaten to date. All it took was a 7 hour trip to the motherland.

Prices are reasonable and service is quick, friendly and efficient.
